Both SMD and COB are LED source, and their appearance does not seem to be much different. So what is the difference between SMD and COB? What are each advantages?


Introduction of SMD and COB light sources: 

1. SMD LED light source is a single SMD LED lamp bead, which is directly mounted on the surface of the LED, compared to the in-line LED production efficiency.

2. The COB light source is an upgrade of the SMD light source. The COB (integrated) packaging technology is directly packaged on the board, that is, a lot chips are integrated and integrated on the inner substrate for packaging, and the high power LED lamp is fabricated by using a small power chip to disperse the chip. Cooling, improving light efficiency, while improving the glare effect of the LED light, so that it emits a uniform smooth surface.

Advantages of each LEDs:

* SMD: 

1. Single SMD chips size is small, easy for lighting design.

2. SMD average lighting efficacy can make higher.

3. If one SMD not working, people can easily replace it by a new one with low cost.


* COB:

1. The thermal resistance of COB package system is lower than that of SMD, which improves the life of LED.

2. COB has lower failure reate. COB is applied directly on luminaire, while SMD need extra matched PCB and SMT weilding. If PCB or SMT is not good, the luminaire will have problem after a few months working.
